Chocolate and strawberry icecream

So, tomorrow I'm leaving for the UK. I'll be spending the next week with my girlfriend in Wales and I can't wait! But I do hate planes, and I'll have to take two to get there and two to get home. Also, the trip will take me more than 12 hours. The great thing about traveling is that I can always draw. So I'll bring my sketchbooks and the Vanderpoel book and draw a lot. I bringing my sister's camera, so I might actually post photos when I get back!

And here's a study done in PS because I'm too lazy to scan.

Strawberry milk with chocolate chips

Time for another update. I don't see the point in including all the croquis sketches, so I've once again just randomly chosen some. So here you've got croquis, café-sketches and sketches drawn in class.

Awesome news! I sent THE Bobby Chiu a mail last weekend and told him how he and his CHIUStream had motivated me and in the end gotten me the job I now have. And he replied my mail! I can imagine he's a very busy man and I didn't even dream of getting a reply, but I did. But that's not the end of it; he read my mail on the CHIUStream last Friday! I was so happy and I felt even more motivated.
Just thought I'd share that.

And now I'm off to the café again.

Strawberries dipped in melted chocolate

Uh...
I thought I'd wait with the sketches 'till after the croquis later today, k? So now I'm updating because I've added colours and basic light on the Riko-pic from the last update. I'm only working on this in the mornings now, from 6-7 am, so I'm getting up at 5am just to draw what I feel like drawing. The rest of the day is practice/work.

Chocolate pie topped with five strawberries

I've got a job now! As the illustrator of a story going in a biweekly magazine for Christian children. The pay isn't bad and the story is really cute so far. 83

Other than that? Aicon was a week ago and it was the worst con I've had a stand at so far. There was no air-conditioner in the room we were placed in and it was never announced that there were art stands there at all. It sucked, so that's the last time we'll have a stand at aicon. We will, however, continue to have stands at desucon.

There's a reason why I don't blog often and that's because there isn't much going on in my life that would be interesting for other people to read about. The number one reason I have this blog is because I need a reason to actually scan/take pictures of my sketches and such. I would post this in dA journals, but the naked people I draw makes that difficult.

Today even the blog isn't really going to motivate me to walk over to the scanner and scan, so I'll just post a digital lineart instead.

Simple drawing of my OC Riko. I wanted to draw something simple where I didn't really have to think about environment and perspective and such. Yes, I was in a very lazy mood.

Damn Dialogue

Okay, so I finally got rid of my lazy and found a camera that works. So after spending an hour or so on resizing I am now finally ready to update the blog.

Rant first, then art.
Today's rant will be about the comic I'm trying to draw. Okay, I can draw. I'm kinda good at that. But write? FUCK NO. I'm trying to write dialogues in my comic, but I realise I fail. I could have a friend do the writing for me, but then it's not MINE, get it? Oh well, I'm just making the comic to make comics, not because it's gonna be awesome, so I guess it's alright.

A painting I'm working on right now. No, the colours do not look like that. Stupid camera.

Photobucket
Same painting.

Photobucket
Inspired by Alphonse Mucha. I'm going to paint it in watercolours soon. I sat down and was ready to enjoy some drawing, but no. I had to spend at least 30 minutes doing maths before I could start drawing. Mucha must've been both an artist and a mathematician.

Damn flowers.

1 minute croquis.

Photobucket
30 second sketches from posemaniacs.

Photobucket
Photobucket
3 minutes croquis.

Photobucket
5 minutes.

Photobucket
Two of my rather gay OCs, Uindo and Kaze.

Photobucket
Croquis of a pregnant woman. 3 minutes, I believe.

Photobucket
About 4 minutes perhaps?

Photobucket
2-3 minutes.

Photobucket
3-4 minutes.

Photobucket
I dunno. Someone gave me chocolate.

THE HORRIBLE MATHS I HAD TO DO. I did even more that that though, but I didn't have to write that down.

Quick rant

I was supposed to upload a lot of sketches yesterday, but the camera hated me. So I'll just post a mini-rant here for now. I'll try to find another camera when I get home.

Today's rant is about reference. I so often hear people brag about having drawn something without using reference. It pisses me off. Why? Because that means you are not doing all you can to make your drawing or painting or whatever look good. Think about it, is it not better to have a very nice and well drawn drawing that you have used reference for than having an ugly and half-assed drawing where you haven't used reference at all? If it could be better if you only used some reference then for the love of God, USE IT. I really wish I used reference more often, but I either forget or I am too lazy. But the thing is, I don't brag about it later. I want to punch myself for it later because something looks off and I know it could have been better if I used reference.

And now class is starting again, so that was all for now. Hopefully I'll submit some sketches later today. See ya!

Café and croquis

I keep forgetting this blog. Huh.

Anyway. Some changes have come into my life recently. Well, not recently, but you know, since my last entry... So I thought I'd update my two followers about that. Although I believe my two followers visit this place about as often as I do myself... eh. The changes are basically that every Wednesday I now attend a croquis class and every Sunday I go to a café in Oslo and sketch people with other serious artists. Oh, how I've longed to be with other like-minded people. I thought I'd be that once I got into high school, taking art and all, but no. I often think choosing arts here was a mistake, seeing as it takes up so much time and I'm not really learning more than I would if I got ten hours more every week to hang out at ConceptArt.org. Oh well.

I've learned that if I want to be as good as I want to be, I've gotta work even harder. Might seem difficult now, but it'll be easier once the sun comes back for real. I've gotta stay focused and be intense. Whenever that negative and lazy voice shows up in my head, I'll PUNCH IT IN THE FACE!

WARNING: NAKED MEN(no visible penises 83)
Here are some somewhat recent sketches:

Anatomy studies are much more fun when you make the models look like OCs. Above you can see my oh-so-manly Uindo.
